A három, évtizedek óta együttműködő díjazott tudós közül mindössze egyikük folytatja itthon kutatásait, Freund Tamás, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Kísérleti Orvostudományi Kutatóintézetének igazgatója. Az intézet 1952 óta működik Budapesten, amely ma az egyetlen hely, ahol kizárólag orvostudományi kutatásokat folytatnak Magyarországon, és amely az idegtudomány területén Közép-Európa vezető kutatóintézetévé emelkedett. This institute, founded in 1952 is currently the only research institute in Hungary dedicated exclusively to medical research and is regarded as the leading research institute in the field of neuroscience in Central Europe.
